II Krakowska Konferencja Genealogiczna 2023

On May 25-26, 2023, the II Krakowska Konferencja Genealogiczna took place!

After a couple of years of hiatus due to the pandemic, the Stowarzyszenie Twoje Korzenie w Polsce returned to continue the idea of genealogical conferences. This time with the cooperation of the Archiwum Narodowe w Krakowie and the Żydowskie Muzeum Galicja.

The main theme of the conference was, in terms of genealogical research, the territory of the former Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, which, despite the fact that it disappeared from the map of Europe a century ago, still endures for genealogists, archivists and historians. It also continues to have a significant impact on the specifics of their research work. In the modern spaces of the National Archives in Krakow, we will discuss the history and genealogy, the specifics of the sources and the state of research to date, methods of conducting genealogical research in the area.

The first day of the event (May 25, 2023) was held at the Archiwum Narodowe w Krakowie. The meeting consisted of three panel discussions, which were preceded by two introductory lectures aimed at presenting the specifics of conducting genealogical research and preserving knowledge of ancestors from Galicia. A wide-ranging discussion took place with the participation of genealogists, archivists, historians and researchers of the history of Galicia. There were discussions about the differences in conducting searches for ancestors, discussions were initiated about the specifics of archival sources, institutions that store and make them available.

On the second day (May 26, 2023), the workshop part took place in the space of Muzeum Żydowskie Galicja. Participants took part in three, very interesting workshop meetings - genealogical, cartographic and thematic, related to the activities of the Żydowskie Muzeum Galicja. There was also a tour of the Museum building.
